Electric Fireplace FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do electric fireplaces need venting or a gas line?

No — that's the point. Electric fireplaces need only an electrical circuit: 120V plug-in for most models, 240V hardwire for the highest-output units. No vent, no chimney, no gas work, and usually no permit.

How much heat does an electric fireplace give?

Typical 1,500W/120V units deliver about 4,800 BTU — comfortable supplemental heat for ~400 sq ft. Select models run 240V for ~8,500–10,000 BTU (up to ~1,000 sq ft). You can also run the flames with the heater off for year-round ambiance. Need primary heat? Consider a gas fireplace (20,000–50,000 BTU).

Can I put a TV above an electric fireplace?

Yes — this is where electric shines. Most units vent little to no heat upward (many have front or bottom heat outlets), so TV clearances are minimal. Check your model's manual, but media-wall installs with a TV directly above are standard practice.

How real do the flames look?

Ranges from classic LED ribbons to premium LCD flame screens (Napoleon Elevation X, Modern Flames HelioVision) and water-vapor "flames" (Dimplex Optimyst) that fool most guests. Product pages state the flame technology for every model.

How does shipping work?

Free freight shipping in the contiguous US. Units ship factory-new; typical transit is 3–6 business days once shipped. Inspect at delivery and note any damage on the receipt — confirmed transit damage is repaired or replaced at no cost.

Can I install a fireplace door myself?

Yes — every door ships with a hardware pack, install instructions, and template. Masonry overlap doors need a hammer drill with a 1/4-inch masonry bit; prefab doors anchor to existing factory mounting points. Plan on 30–60 minutes for the install. The installation guide walks through both fit types.
