What's the difference between inside-fit and overlap-fit?
Inside-fit means the door sits flush inside the opening — frame edges align with the brick face. Overlap-fit means the frame sits on top of the brick face and overlaps the opening by 1.5" sides/top, 1" bottom. Inside-fit is minimalist; overlap hides out-of-square openings.
When should I choose inside-fit?
Three cases: (1) your opening is square to within 1/8 inch on all four corners, (2) you want a sleek modern look without a visible frame on the brick face, (3) you have decorative tile or stone right up to the opening edge that you don't want to cover.
How do I measure for an inside-fit door?
Measure the opening at four points (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right) and order to the smallest width and shortest height. The door must fit the tightest dimension, not the widest. The measuring guide walks through it.
Is inside-fit harder to install?
Slightly — the door anchors to the firebrick jamb (the inside surface of the opening), not the brick face. You'll need a hammer drill with a 3/16-inch masonry bit and refractory anchors that bite into firebrick without cracking. Plan 60-90 minutes for the install.
Will sparks escape around an inside-fit door?
No — inside-fit doors include a continuous gasket around the perimeter that seals against the jamb. The seal is just as tight as overlap-fit. The only difference is aesthetic, not functional.
Are inside-fit doors more expensive?
Same price range as overlap-fit equivalents. The construction cost is similar. The 5-10% premium some shops charge for inside-fit reflects the tighter tolerances; we price flat across both fit types.
