Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which fireplace door I need?
Start by identifying whether your fireplace is masonry (brick, stone, mortar joints) or prefab (metal box, refractory panels bolted in). Masonry takes overlap-fit doors that hide the brick face; prefab needs an exact-match door for your make and model. Our AI Fireplace Expert identifies your fireplace from a photo in 15 seconds.
What's the difference between custom and standard-size doors?
Standard-size doors come in fixed sizes (typically 36×26 to 42×30) and ship in 3–5 days starting at $865. Custom doors are built to your exact opening — to the 1/8 inch — and run 14–21 business days. Most masonry openings need custom because they're rarely square.
How long does a fireplace door take to ship?
Quick-ship Hearthcraft and Stoll Columbia doors leave the warehouse in 2–6 business days. Custom Stoll and Design Specialties run 14–21 business days. Premium Avalon, Bar Iron (ForgeLine), and plated finishes run 4–5 weeks. Every order ships free in the continental US.
Are fireplace doors covered under warranty?
Yes — every door on ExceptionalFire carries a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects, frame welding failure, and finish blistering when used as directed. Glass breakage from impact and finish wear from abrasive cleaning are excluded. Full terms on the warranty page.
Do glass doors save energy?
Yes — when the fireplace is cold, closed glass doors stop room air from being pulled up the chimney by the natural draft. Industry estimates put the savings at 8–10% on heating bills in cold climates. During a burn, doors should stay open for radiant heat output and to feed combustion air.
Can I install a fireplace door myself?
Yes — every door ships with a hardware pack, install instructions, and template. Masonry overlap doors need a hammer drill with a 1/4-inch masonry bit; prefab doors anchor to existing factory mounting points. Plan on 30–60 minutes for the install. The installation guide walks through both fit types.

GOOD TO KNOW
Real Fyre Questions, Answered
What makes Real Fyre logs different?
Real Fyre is the R.H. Peterson family brand that set the standard for gas logs since 1949: ceramic refractory logs hand-painted and cast from real wood samples, with burners engineered for tall, natural flame patterns. It’s the brand most fireplace shops measure everything else against.
Do you carry vented and ventless Real Fyre sets?
Both — plus outdoor, ANSI-certified and see-through configurations. If you’re not sure which your fireplace allows, start with our guide: vented vs ventless gas logs, or send us a photo of your fireplace.
What sizes do Real Fyre sets come in?
From compact 16″ sets for small fireboxes to 42″+ for grand openings. Measure your firebox front width, back width, depth and height — every product page filters burner options that fit your measurements.
Which ignition should I choose?
Match light is the classic budget option (vented only). Safety pilot adds a control knob. Millivolt works with remotes and wall switches, and electronic ignition skips the standing pilot for maximum efficiency. All are factory Real Fyre systems — pick during configuration.
