Fireplace Screens — Which fireplace screen fits your hearth?

Screens use mesh (and sometimes glass) to contain sparks during a burn but don't seal the opening when the fireplace is cold. Doors use solid glass and a continuous gasket to seal against air movement up the chimney. Many homes have both — door for off-season, screen for active fires.

Not strictly — closed glass doors contain sparks during normal operation. But many homeowners prefer a screen for the open-fire experience (the radiant heat output is higher with the doors fully open). A screen behind the open doors gives the best of both.

Wipe the frame with a soft cloth. For mesh, brush off ash with a soft-bristle brush. Avoid water on mesh — it accelerates oxidation and can leave water spots on the frame. Powder-coated frames clean with a damp microfiber if needed.
