Overview
The Split Oak Designer Plus Vented Gas Log Set arranges a mix of hand-painted, finely defined split logs modeled from real-world samples, layering freshly-split faces and weathered bark for a polished yet authentic look. It adds a refined touch of elegance that suits a more designed, intentional hearth. The detailed split surfaces catch the flame beautifully for an upscale, realistic fire.
Why we carry it
We carry Real Fyre because Peterson has hand-painted ceramic refractory logs in the USA since 1949, the benchmark for realism in the industry. Each Designer Plus log is individually cast, hand-finished from a real wood model, and reinforced with internal steel for strength under repeated high heat.

How to size & measure your fireplace
Measure the front width of your firebox opening along with the rear width, depth, and height. Choose a log set about 6 inches narrower than the front opening so flames clear the surround comfortably. As a vented set, it must be installed in a fireplace with a functioning chimney and operable damper.
What's in the box

FAQ
How is this different from the ANSI version? This standard set uses a single or double-tube burner you ignite yourself; the ANSI version ships with a pre-assembled, certified valve-and-regulator system.
Vented or ventless? Vented, for the most realistic flame, which requires a working chimney.
Which fuel can I use? Natural Gas or Propane; pick your fuel at checkout.
What ignition should I choose? Match-Light for simplicity, or a pilot/electronic remote for convenient control.
Burner & Ignition Guide
The burner and ignition you choose decide how you light the fire, how you control it, and how long it lasts. Here's the plain-English version so you order with confidence.
Ignition — how you light & control it
- Match Lit — light it with a long match or lighter. No valve, lowest cost. Natural gas only. Best if you want the simplest possible setup.
- Manual Safety Pilot — a standing pilot with a safety shut-off knob. Turn the fire on/off by hand; the pilot keeps gas from flowing if the flame goes out. Works with propane.
- On/Off Remote — automatic pilot kit; flip the fire on and off from a handheld remote.
- Variable / Millivolt Remote — remote on/off plus dial the flame height up and down. The most popular upgrade.
- Electronic Ignition — battery electronic pilot, no standing pilot burning 24/7, so it saves gas. Includes remote.
Burner — the metal heart of the set
- G4 — Standard cast burner. Reliable single-row burner, the most economical choice. Match-lit sets.
- G45 — Premium burner. More ports and a fuller ember bed for a deeper, more realistic flame. Required for pilot/electronic ignitions.
- G45 Stainless. Same premium burner in 304 stainless steel — won't rust or warp, backed by a lifetime burner warranty. The choice for damp climates or a buy-it-once set.
This set offers: Match Lit · Manual Safety Pilot · Automatic — Variable Flame Remote · Automatic — On/Off Remote | Burners: G4 Burner · G45 Burner · G45 Stainless Burner

Installation & Log Placement
Every log is numbered and placed in a specific position so the flame pattern looks right and burns clean. Follow the placement diagram included with your set.
- Confirm your gas type (natural gas or propane) matches your order and your home supply.
- Set the burner pan level on the fireplace floor; connect to the gas line per local code.
- Lay the grate, then place each log by its number following the placement diagram.
- Add the included embers/glowing ember material across the front of the burner.
- Test the flame; never block the front burner ports with logs or embers.
Professional installation by a licensed gas technician is required. Improper installation voids the warranty and is unsafe.
Log Placement Diagram (PDF)Warranty
Lifetime warranty on the ceramic logs against cracking and burnout under normal use. Burners, pans, valves and ignition components carry the manufacturer's component warranty (typically 1–10 years depending on the part).
Warranty requires installation by a licensed professional and use of the correct fuel type. Keep your order confirmation as proof of purchase — we have it on file for you too.

Frequently asked questions
Vented vs. ventless gas logs — which is right for me?
Vented gas logs require a working chimney/flue (open damper during use). They produce a more realistic, taller flame and expel combustion byproducts outdoors. Ventless (vent-free) gas logs burn cleaner so they don't require a flue — but they release combustion moisture and trace byproducts into the room. Vented = more realistic look + fully outdoor exhaust. Ventless = higher heat efficiency + flexible install but check local codes (some jurisdictions restrict ventless).
Are ventless gas logs safe?
Ventless gas logs sold in the US must include an oxygen depletion sensor (ODS) by design — the unit shuts off automatically if room oxygen drops below safe levels. Most also include built-in carbon monoxide protections. To use safely: install a CO detector in the room, follow the BTU sizing limits for your room volume, crack a window if running for extended periods, and don't run continuously for more than the manufacturer's stated maximum (typically 4 hours). Some states and municipalities do not permit ventless installation — check your local code.
Can I use gas logs in my wood-burning fireplace?
Yes — vented gas logs are designed to drop into a working masonry or pre-fab wood-burning fireplace. The chimney/flue must be inspected and verified working (open damper during use). You'll also need a gas line run to the firebox if one isn't already there. Always have a licensed gas plumber install the line and have a hearth professional install and test the burner.
How do I light gas logs?
Most modern gas log sets use a millivolt valve with a wall switch or remote, or a match-light system where you ignite a pilot manually with a match. Check your specific set's manual. For first lighting after install, follow the manufacturer's burn-in procedure (typically 4–6 hours total of staged burns) to cure the logs and burner coatings before regular use.
Free shipping and warranty?
Free freight shipping on all orders, contiguous US. Most gas log sets carry a 5-year warranty on the burner and a limited lifetime warranty on the ceramic logs against defects (warranty terms vary by manufacturer — full details on each product page). 30-day return window on unused, uninstalled gas log sets.
