For deeper fire pits and fireplaces, lava rock is an excellent filler material because it helps reduce the amount of premium fire glass required. Simply fill the deeper portion of the fire feature with lava rock and finish the surface with your preferred fire glass for a clean, high-end appearance.

Using lava rock beneath fire glass is especially useful for large or deep fire pits because it reduces the amount of fire glass needed to achieve proper coverage, helping lower the overall cost of your project.
For a premium finished appearance, completely cover the lava rock base with your selected fire glass so the filler layer is not visible.
