The Empire Tahoe Premium 42" Direct Vent Gas Fireplace is a direct-vent gas fireplace. Sealed behind glass; vents through an exterior wall or the roof with co-axial pipe that takes combustion air from outside. Venting components are sold separately; the configurator lists what your run needs.

A built-in gas fireplace is sized by the manufacturer’s framing (rough opening) spec — the exact framing drawing for this model is in the manufacturer’s installation manual — see the Manufacturer Documents tab.
- New installs (direct-vent & vent-free) — confirm your wall or chase has the width, height, and depth the framing spec calls for, and plan the vent route for direct-vent models (through an exterior wall or the roof). Vent-free models need no vent at all.
- Inserts — measure your existing firebox in four places: front width, rear width, height, and depth, plus your chimney height. Compare against the insert’s minimum opening in Specifications.
- See-through & corner models — check the required wall depth between finished faces on both sides.

What makes the Premium different from the Tahoe Deluxe?
Three things: the Slope-Glaze burner with taller, more realistic flames; ceramic glass instead of tempered, which radiates noticeably more heat; and a higher 28,000 BTU input. It also uses larger 5" x 8" venting.
Is the fireplace complete out of the box?
The firebox, burner, log set and ceramic glass door are included, but Empire requires one decorative front (arched or rectangular, three finishes) and one liner to finish the unit, plus a barrier screen for safe operation — all sold separately. We can bundle them for you.
What venting does it need?
5" x 8" direct vent pipe from the top or rear connection. A 4" x 6-5/8" system may be used vertically off the top with Empire's SD58DVA-X46 adaptor.
Can it run during a power outage?
Yes — millivolt versions operate with no household electricity at all, and the electronic (IPI) versions include battery backup.
Is a remote control available?
Yes — on/off and thermostat battery remotes, wall thermostats and wall switches are available; Empire also offers an RF multi-function remote ignition family in this series.
