The Hitching Post Surround is a three-piece, non-combustible fireplace surround paying homage to Kentucky's historic hitching posts and rails. Each piece features deep weathered woodgrain, tool marks, nail holes, saw marks, checks & splits, and character knots — combining rugged elegance with timeless style.
Cast from our patented fireproof Burncrete™ formulation, the posts can be trimmed with a diamond-bladed saw to fit lower openings.

How far does a mantel need to be from the firebox?
Use the clearance requirements in both the fireplace installation manual and the mantel installation instructions, together with local code. A non-combustible mantel does not automatically permit zero clearance. Confirm the mantel position, wall construction and fastening method before installation.
What's the difference between combustible and non-combustible mantels?
Wood and wood-composite mantels are combustible. Non-combustible mantels use a material rated for that purpose, but the required separation from heat still depends on the fireplace and mantel instructions.
This Lexington Hearth mantel is made from non-combustible Burncrete with a hand-applied finish that recreates the appearance of wood.
How do I install a floating mantel?
The Hitching Post surround is a three-piece set (top rail and two posts). Lexington Hearth publishes an installation video for it; see the Manufacturer documents section on this page.
Will the mantel arrive ready to install?
The mantel arrives finished with a mounting bracket, the specified screws and a touch-up kit. Check the mounting instructions for any additional fasteners needed for your wall.
