Frequently Asked
What fireplace types does the Carolina Traditional fit?
The Carolina Traditional Steel Fireplace Glass Doors are built for both masonry and prefab zero-clearance fireplaces. Masonry openings can be fitted via overlap or inside fit; prefab ZC openings use overlap tooling. This dual compatibility makes it a strong choice for retrofit projects and new or renovated fireplace surrounds alike.
Is the Carolina Traditional custom-made to size?
Yes — every Carolina Traditional is custom-made to your exact firebox dimensions in ⅛" increments. There is no fixed catalog size; you specify the opening and Design Specialties cuts, miters, and welds the frame to match. Masonry frames are available with 1½", 2", or 2½" frame widths; ZC frames at 1½".
What material is the Carolina Traditional frame made from?
The frame is cut from 3/16" hot-rolled steel with mitered, dual-face welds ground flush for seamless corners. Before finishing, each frame is phosphate-etched and powder-coated at 400°F to a 3-mil coat — a process Design Specialties credits for long-term finish durability around hinges and hardware.
How many finish options are available?
The Carolina Traditional offers 11 powder-coat finishes, including matte black, textured bronze, antique brass, copper, gun metal, iron, mahogany, nickel, and pewter. Upgraded hand-applied options like aged iron and hand-rubbed bronze are also available. Handles and hardware can be specified in a matched finish.
What glass and mesh options come with these doors?
Clear tempered glass is the default; grey or bronze tint can be specified at order. For mesh, you can choose a cabinet-style mesh screen or a pull-ring mesh curtain. Both glass and mesh selections are made during the customization process alongside your frame dimensions and finish.
What is the lead time for the Carolina Traditional?
Production takes approximately 3 weeks, plus transit time to your location. Lead time reflects the custom-made nature of each order — your frame is built to your specified dimensions after the order is placed. Contact ExceptionalFire.com for the current production schedule before ordering.
What add-on options are available for the Carolina Traditional?
Several add-ons can be included with your order: an Integrated Hood ($205), a Heat Shield ($70), Returns to Increase Depth ($135), and crating for freight protection. These are configured at the time of purchase and allow you to tailor the installation to your specific surround and depth requirements.
