Superior WRT3036 Fireplace Doors — Exact-Fit Doors (WCT3036 Too)

Fireplace Doors for the Superior WRT3036

The WRT3036 — and its twin the WCT3036 — is Superior's current 36-inch wood-burning fireplace, one of the best-selling builder boxes in America today. And it comes with a detail that catches almost everyone: the "36-inch" fireplace does not have a 36-inch opening. Superior's own specification drawing puts the front opening at 35 inches wide by 21 inches tall, confirmed in the installation manual and the factory dimension sheet. One inch does not sound like much until a door built for a nominal 36 arrives at your house and meets a real 35.

WRT3036, WCT3036 — one family, one opening

Superior sells the 3000-series 36 in WRT and WCT versions that share a single installation manual, a single spec sheet, and the same front opening; suffix letters after the base model denote trim and configuration options. The rating plate inside the firebox — side wall or behind the lower grille — carries the full model string. If the fireplace is finished in and the plate unreachable, a straight-on photo through our AI Fireplace Expert identifies the family and the correct fit style without disturbing anything.

The one-inch trap, and how to stay out of it

  • Retail listings round. Some door pages quote generic openings for this fireplace that do not match the factory drawing. The manual says 35 x 21; ambiguity is exactly why we build to your tape measure, not to a listing.
  • The factory bi-fold is one option. Superior offers the BD36 bi-fold door for this series. A made-to-order door adds cabinet and full-view styles, finish and glass choices, and a build matched to your measured opening rather than the nominal one.
  • Prefab rules apply. The 3036 is a listed zero-clearance appliance: inside-fit doors, unmodified firebox, unblocked louvers and air channels. Masonry overlap doors have no business on it.

Measuring your WRT3036

Measure the opening width at the top, middle, and bottom, and the height at the left, center, and right, following our measuring guide. Use the smallest numbers. On this model the exercise routinely surprises people — expect the tape to read closer to 35 than 36 — and those measured figures are what we build to under the Perfect Fit Guarantee.

What NOT to do with a WRT3036 door

Don't Why
Order a "36-inch door" off the shelf The documented front opening is 35" x 21". Nominal size is a category, not a measurement.
Burn wood with tempered-glass doors closed Closed-door firing can shatter tempered glass, which is rated for doors-open radiant warmth.
Trust a listing over the factory drawing Where retail specs and the manual disagree, the manual — and your tape measure — win.
Block the air openings The listing depends on the engineered airflow around the firebox staying clear.

Frequently asked questions

What size door fits a Superior WRT3036? The factory drawing lists the front opening at 35" wide by 21" tall. Measure your installed opening before ordering — and don't be surprised when it isn't 36.

Is the WCT3036 the same fireplace? WRT and WCT 3036 share one manual, one spec sheet, and one opening. Note your full model string from the plate and measure — that combination covers you.

Does Superior make a factory door? Yes, the BD36 bi-fold. Custom doors exist for other styles, finishes, glass options, and exact measured builds.

Can I burn with the doors closed? Only with glass rated for it. If you want the doors shut while the fire burns, talk to us about ceramic glass before you configure.
