Overview

The Rustic Oak Vented Gas Log Set captures the rough, weathered character of well-aged oak, with deep high-definition bark, intricate knots, and natural coloration that reads as genuinely reclaimed wood. Its wide size range, up to a full 42 inches, makes it one of the most adaptable sets we offer for large fireboxes. It is the rugged, organic choice for a fire with real presence.

Why we carry it

We carry Real Fyre because Peterson has hand-painted ceramic refractory logs in the USA since 1949 and sets the industry benchmark for realism. Every Rustic Oak log is individually cast from a wood sample, hand-finished, and reinforced with an internal steel rod for lasting durability.

Specifications

  • Material: hand-painted ceramic refractory with internal steel reinforcement
  • Fuel: Natural Gas or Propane
  • Vented: requires a working chimney/flue with an operable damper
  • Ignition options: Match-Light, Manual Safety Pilot, or Electronic with variable-flame remote (where available)
  • Available sizes: 16, 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 in
  • Made in the USA by Peterson Real Fyre
  • Warranty: lifetime burner warranty

How to size & measure your fireplace

Take four measurements of your firebox: front opening width, rear width, depth, and height. Select a log set roughly 6 inches narrower than the front opening so the flames sit cleanly inside. Larger fireboxes can take the 36 or 42 inch sets. As a vented system, it needs a functioning chimney and damper.

What's in the box

  • Hand-painted Rustic Oak ceramic logs
  • Burner and custom grate
  • Glowing embers (vermiculite/silica sand)
  • Damper clamp
  • Connector kit
  • Installation instructions

FAQ

What size fits a large fireplace? This set scales to 42 inches, making it ideal for oversized masonry fireboxes; measure your front width and subtract about 6 inches.

Vented or ventless? Vented, with the tallest, most natural flame and a requirement for a working chimney.

Can I convert fuel later? Sets are configured for either Natural Gas or Propane at purchase; choose the correct fuel at checkout rather than converting afterward.

Which ignition is best? Match-Light is the simplest; a pilot or electronic remote system adds convenient on/off control.

FAQ · What buyers ask

Frequently asked questions

Vented vs. ventless gas logs — which is right for me?

Vented gas logs require a working chimney/flue (open damper during use). They produce a more realistic, taller flame and expel combustion byproducts outdoors. Ventless (vent-free) gas logs burn cleaner so they don't require a flue — but they release combustion moisture and trace byproducts into the room. Vented = more realistic look + fully outdoor exhaust. Ventless = higher heat efficiency + flexible install but check local codes (some jurisdictions restrict ventless).

Are ventless gas logs safe?

Ventless gas logs sold in the US must include an oxygen depletion sensor (ODS) by design — the unit shuts off automatically if room oxygen drops below safe levels. Most also include built-in carbon monoxide protections. To use safely: install a CO detector in the room, follow the BTU sizing limits for your room volume, crack a window if running for extended periods, and don't run continuously for more than the manufacturer's stated maximum (typically 4 hours). Some states and municipalities do not permit ventless installation — check your local code.

Can I use gas logs in my wood-burning fireplace?

Yes — vented gas logs are designed to drop into a working masonry or pre-fab wood-burning fireplace. The chimney/flue must be inspected and verified working (open damper during use). You'll also need a gas line run to the firebox if one isn't already there. Always have a licensed gas plumber install the line and have a hearth professional install and test the burner.

How do I light gas logs?

Most modern gas log sets use a millivolt valve with a wall switch or remote, or a match-light system where you ignite a pilot manually with a match. Check your specific set's manual. For first lighting after install, follow the manufacturer's burn-in procedure (typically 4–6 hours total of staged burns) to cure the logs and burner coatings before regular use.

Free shipping and warranty?

Free freight shipping on all orders, contiguous US. Most gas log sets carry a 5-year warranty on the burner and a limited lifetime warranty on the ceramic logs against defects (warranty terms vary by manufacturer — full details on each product page). 30-day return window on unused, uninstalled gas log sets.
