A truly floating mantel shelf — 3/8″ tempered glass on a concealed 1″ steel bracket. No visible hardware, no thick wood block above the firebox. Just a clean, lit-up plane of glass against your wall.

Each mantel ships with a concealed steel bracket pre-drilled for studs or anchors. The glass shelf slides onto the bracket and is secured with hidden set screws underneath — no visible fasteners on top.
- Locate studs. Mark stud centers along the bracket span — wood-mount is preferred for spans over 4′. For masonry / brick, use the included 5/16″ sleeve anchors.
- Mount the bracket. Level and fasten through the pre-drilled holes. Bracket height clears the top of the firebox opening by a minimum of 12″ (gas) or per local code (wood-burning).
- Slide on the glass. The shelf slides flush against the wall over the bracket flange. Tighten the two hidden set screws underneath to lock it in place.
- Final check. Run a level across the top — adjust set screws if needed. The polished edge should sit flush against the wall.
Hardware kit included. Installation typically takes 30–45 minutes with a stud finder, level, drill, and 2 people for spans over 5′.
Tempered glass is non-combustible. Unlike a wood mantel, this shelf has no minimum vertical clearance from the top of the firebox under most local codes — though we recommend at least 12″ over gas inserts and per the manufacturer's clearance for wood-burning units.
The 1″ steel bracket is rated to 500°F continuous and stays cool below 200°F even during sustained burns. Always consult your fireplace's installation manual and local building codes.

Returns: Custom-cut glass mantels are non-returnable — every order is verified by our team before production. Damage in transit is fully covered — file a claim within 48 hours of delivery and we ship a replacement at no charge.
All glass mantels carry a 5-year warranty against tempering defects and bracket failure from Design Specialties. Powder-coat finish is warranted against chipping and fading for 5 years. Transit damage is fully covered for 30 days from delivery.

Why does non-combustible matter?
Traditional wood mantels require a minimum 12" clearance from the fireplace opening, which forces a higher mantel position and adds a fire-hazard risk over time as wood warps and discolors. Non-combustible steel can be mounted directly above the firebox with zero clearance, meets all building codes, and is safe above both gas and wood fireplaces — giving you a cleaner look and a lower profile.
