The Marco B41CF is a 41-inch, wood-burning zero-clearance fireplace from Marco Manufacturing of Los Angeles — one of the dominant prefab builders of the 1970s and 80s. The "CF" stands for Marco's clean-face design: unlike the company's heat-circulating models, the B41CF has no blower cavity and no louvered air-circulation grilles. It heats the room the old-fashioned way, radiantly, straight off the fire, through a flatter, cleaner front. Aftermarket cross-reference charts often group it with the louvered B41HC because the two share a nominal opening size — but they are different fireboxes with different faces, and your door should be specced against the unit on your wall, not a chart entry.

Confirm what's on your wall before you order anything. Marco riveted a metal rating plate inside every firebox — check the side walls just inside the opening and up behind the top edge of the face. You're looking for B41CF or B41CFI (the interchangeable installed variant), and possibly a Marco catalog number instead: 792851 or 792862 both identify this radiant 41-inch firebox. Marco used model codes and catalog numbers in parallel, so a parts invoice from decades ago may show only the six-digit number. Parts listings put the opening around 41 inches wide by 22 1/4 inches tall — a useful ballpark and nothing more. Measure the actual opening; that's the number the door gets built to.

No Factory, No OEM Doors — and Why Generic Won't Do

Marco went out of business after its recall era in the 1990s and never returned. What product support remained passed to other manufacturers, but no OEM door kit for the B-series is in production, and the accessories still floating around parts houses are leftover stock marked discontinued. A 41-inch radiant Marco is therefore a custom-door job by definition — and the generic alternatives fail on specifics:

• Masonry doors are overlap-fit; the B41CF needs inside-fit. An overlap door clamps to flat brick around a masonry opening. The B41CF is a factory-built unit with a sheet-metal front — there is no brick to clamp to, and forcing an overlap frame onto a prefab face is neither secure nor safe.
• Inside-fit means exact fit. The door seats within the opening against the firebox flange. Get the width wrong by a quarter inch and the door either won't go in or sits with daylight around the frame.
• 41 inches is an orphan size. Even in the stock-door era, 41-inch prefab doors were uncommon. Today, hunting for one off the shelf mostly turns up "discontinued" tags.

Measure First — It's Ten Minutes

The whole order rests on three numbers. Measure the opening width at top, middle, and bottom and record the smallest; measure the height at left, center, and right and keep the smallest of those; then note the depth to anything that sits just inside the opening — a screen track, a lip, a raised refractory floor. Mistakes to Avoid with a B41CF

• Closing tempered-glass doors on a burning fire. Tempered glass isn't built for sustained direct flame heat. Burn with doors fully open; close them only once the fire is out, to stop heated room air from draining up the flue.
• Buying a door specced for the B41HC without measuring. The B41HC is the heat-circulating model with a different, louvered front. Same nominal width, different firebox — your radiant B41CF should be measured and ordered as itself.
• Installing an overlap-fit masonry door. There's no masonry to clamp to on a prefab sheet-metal face; the mount is insecure and the fit is wrong.
• Trusting the "41 x 22 1/4" listing dimension. It's a nominal family figure. Refractory panels and surround work change real openings; yours may differ.
• Drilling into the firebox liner or refractory panels. Doors mount to the front flange only. Penetrating the firebox damages the unit.
