Majestic NVBR36 Fireplace Doors — Made-to-Measure Replacement
Fireplace Doors for the Majestic NVBR36
The Majestic NVBR36 is the odd one out among the popular 36-inch Majestic fireboxes: it is not a wood burner. NVB-series units are B-vent gas fireplaces — natural-draft appliances that came in radiant (NVBR36) and heat-circulating (NVBC36) versions, with 42-inch siblings sharing the same installation manual. Plenty of them are still in service, usually with tired or missing glass doors, and owners quickly learn two things: Majestic no longer offers doors for the series, and the gas heritage of this box changes both why you want doors and how you should use them. Both are covered below.
NVBR36 is not a BR36 — and neither is the Superior one
Model-number soup warning. Majestic's wood-burning BR36 is a different fireplace with a slightly different opening (36 x 21 versus the NVBR36's 36 x 21 1/2), and Superior sold its own unrelated BR-36 as well. Some mass-market door listings lump BR36, BC36, SR36, SC36, GBR36, and NVBR36 into one "fits" line because the openings are close — close is not exact, and exact is the whole point of a door that seals. Confirm your tag before ordering: it is a metal plate on the inside sheet-metal wall of the firebox. If the tag is gone, send photos of the unit — including the burner area and the face — to our AI Fireplace Expert for a free identification.
Why put doors on a B-vent gas fireplace at all?
A B-vent fireplace breathes through an always-open flue. When the fire is off, that flue keeps working — pulling your heated (or air-conditioned) room air up and out around the clock. Well-fitted glass doors close off that standby loss, keep drafts from washing across the room, dress up a dated black opening, and put a barrier between small hands and the firebox. On a discontinued unit like the NVBR36, they are also the single most visible upgrade you can make without touching the gas system.
Use them the right way
One rule matters more than the rest: operate the fireplace with the doors fully open. Tempered-glass doors on this unit are for when the flame is off — they are not rated as a burning enclosure, and a natural-draft gas appliance needs its designed airflow while running. Close the doors after shutdown, once the firebox has cooled. Never block the louvers or air openings around the face, and never drill into the firebox walls; a proper inside-fit door mounts at points the box can safely accept.

Measuring the NVBR36 opening
The listed opening is 36 x 21 1/2 inches, but treat that as the factory's number, not your fireplace's. Refacing, mantel surrounds, and hearth work all shave or shift openings over the decades. Follow our measuring guide: three width measurements, two heights, smallest values win, plus photos of the face. Five minutes of tape-measure work is what turns a custom door from a gamble into a guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get an original Majestic door for the NVBR36? No — the NVB series is discontinued and factory doors are no longer produced. Custom aftermarket is the remaining path to a proper fit.
My tag says NVBC36. Same door? Yes — the radiant and circulating versions share the 36 x 21 1/2 opening, and we build for both from your measurements.
Can the doors be closed while the fire is on? No. Run this B-vent fireplace with the glass fully open, and close the doors only after the unit is off and cooled.
Where do I find the model number? On the rating plate inside the firebox, on a sheet-metal side wall. Missing or illegible? Our AI expert identifies units from photos at no charge.
