Majestic SA36 Fireplace Doors — Sovereign 36 Exact-Fit Doors

Fireplace Doors for the Majestic SA36

The SA36 is Majestic's Sovereign 36 — a current-production wood-burning heat-circulating fireplace that carries one of the oldest nameplates in the industry. Majestic's specification sheet lists its viewing area at 36 inches wide by 21-3/8 inches tall, the classic wide-and-low builder proportion. The Sovereign ships in two versions hidden inside one model number, and knowing which one you own is the first step toward the right door.

SA36R or SA36C? The suffix matters

The rating plate inside the firebox reads SA36R for the radiant version or SA36C for the circulating version. From the room, the circulating model gives itself away with louver banks that move room air around the firebox. The distinction matters for doors: Majestic's own accessory list restricts its gasketed door to the circulating model, and on any circulating fireplace, nothing you install may block the louvers. If your plate reads SR36 or SC36 instead, you have an earlier Sovereign generation — see our SR36 and SC36 pages. Plate unreadable? A straight-on photo through the AI Fireplace Expert sorts the generations in seconds.

The factory options, and where custom fits

Majestic lists factory fronts for the SA36: DM-series bi-fold glass doors, a gasketed door for the circulating version, and a mesh screen front. So why order custom? Three reasons come up again and again:

  • Style. The factory door is a bi-fold in the factory's finish. Made-to-order opens cabinet styles, full-view frames, and finish choices the catalog doesn't carry.
  • Fit. The 36 x 21-3/8 spec describes the appliance; your stone, tile, or raised hearth decides how the opening actually presents. A custom door is built to the installed reality.
  • Glass and mesh choices. Tint, mesh style, and handle details become your call instead of the default.

Measuring your SA36

Measure the opening width at the top, middle, and bottom, and the height at the left, center, and right, following our measuring guide. Use the smallest numbers — that is what we build to, and what the Perfect Fit Guarantee stands on. Never order from the model number alone, even on a current model with a published spec.

What NOT to do with an SA36 door

Don't Why
Burn wood with tempered-glass doors closed Tempered glass is rated for doors-open radiant use; closed-door firing can shatter it.
Block the louvers on a circulating model They move the air the fireplace was engineered to move. Covering them overheats the unit.
Fit a masonry overlap door Sheet-metal fireboxes offer no safe anchor for clamping frames.
Assume all Sovereigns share one door SA and the older SR/SC generations are documented separately. Model plus measurement, always.

Frequently asked questions

What size door fits a Majestic SA36? Majestic lists the viewing area at 36" x 21-3/8". Confirm the model, then measure your installed opening — both are required.

Is there a factory door for the SA36? Yes — Majestic lists bi-fold and, for the circulating version, gasketed factory doors. Custom doors serve owners who want other styles, finishes, or an exact build to a measured opening.

Can I burn with the doors closed? Only with glass rated for it. For closed-door burning, ceramic glass is the option to raise with our team first.
