The Icon 60 is Heatilator's current 36-inch wood-burning fireplace — the modern descendant of the builder boxes that made the brand a household name. Unlike the discontinued models that fill the rest of our Heatilator library, the Icon 60 is still in production, and Heatilator's own architect guide publishes its front opening plainly: 36 inches wide by 28-1/2 inches tall. That tall opening is the Icon's signature — a half-foot more glass height than the old E36-era boxes — and it changes what a door for this fireplace can look like. A properly built door turns that big rectangle of firelight into the centerpiece of the room; a flimsy one turns it into a wall of rattling frames.
First, confirm which Icon you have
The Icon series comes in three sizes — the 36-inch Icon 60, the 42-inch Icon 80, and the 50-inch Icon 100. The model designation is on the rating plate inside the firebox, usually on a side wall or behind the lower grille, and reads I60. The factory door, and why many owners look past it
Heatilator lists two factory fronts for the Icon series: DM-series bi-fold glass doors and Grand Vista screen doors. If your Icon 60 came with the DM bi-fold, you already know its character — folding panels, a fixed trim style, and the finish options the factory chose. A custom door built to your measured opening takes a different path:
- One opening, your numbers. The published 36 x 28-1/2 spec is the starting point, but your door gets built to what your tape measure says after installation, facing, and hearth work are done.
- Cabinet or full-view styles, not just bi-fold. Folding panels are one look. Cabinet doors, full-view frames, and modern minimal styles are all on the table when the door is made to order.
- Finish and glass chosen by you. Frame finish, mesh, and glass tint are configurable rather than fixed to the factory catalog.

Measuring your Icon 60
Measure the opening even though the model is current and documented. Facing material, raised hearths, and installer choices all meet the firebox at slightly different places, and a door built for the room next door is not a door built for yours.
